When Religulous ...Hi -- this post was a great read. When Religulous first opened, I thought that it would be a great eye-opening film to watch. Religion isn't something normally discussed with such candor. I was sorely disappointed. I felt that it focused on Christianity too much. It didn't delve into aspects of other religions (Animism came to mind, specifically). It made complete mockeries of followers. Overall, I felt it was a rather narrowminded view of everything.

I hope you don't mind, but I linked to this post on my blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33539205.post-82318874828134301552008-09-09T18:58:00.000-04:002008-09-09T18:58:00.000-04:00Wow this is an excellent list! Of course, another problem arises once you've created your website -- how to push traffic to your site.

One solution may be to join internet communities that already have a large, steady stream of visits to their sites. Myspace.com has an entire section dedicated to independent filmmakers and their projects. Signing up is free and creating a space is easy.

If you've reached a point in production where you feel comfortable sharing a minute or two of film as a teaser/trailer, consider posting it on YouTube.com. Again, free to signup and easy to use.

Your presence on YouTube.com or myspace.com would serve as an introduction, if you will, to your project. You would include the link to your own project's or production company's website, thus resulting in click-throughs -- traffic being pushed to your own site from the larger, more heavily trafficked sites.

Some would argue that "pop culture" type sites such as myspace.com and YouTube.com don't attract the type of interest that would be amenable to documentary projects. However, the use of these two popular sites has evolved greatly from their inception a few years ago. They are not just for teens and nexgen users anymore. Major film studios and broadcast networks, in the last year or so, have recognized the potential exposure (and the power of the viral awareness and buzz generated) of their work by placing information about it on these sites. Maximizing exposure of your project as early as possible on sites that are already well established with high rates of traffic increases the chances for your project's visibility.

Jane Green
www.myspace.com/janeagreenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
